Same Place Challenge 1109b

Same Place — Different View Challenge, Part Two

As we noted in the last blog, I challenged our alumni to come up with their own Same Place – Different View.  This second part shows the rest of the winners of our challenge.

You will again see that in these examples of Same Place — Different View, there are always different ways of seeing a scene.

All of these images are copyrighted by their respective owners, as noted in their metadata.

Arnold Berkman did two entirely different views from just about the exact same spot in our Alumni workshop in Yosemite last winter.  As you can see, Arnie B. captured the change in the light.© 2011 Arnold Berkman. All Rights Reserved.© 2011 Arnold Berkman. All Rights Reserved.

Lesley Ackman made a statue the subject of her two shots. In one, she did a close-up detail; in the other, she used the light and black-and-white processing to create a dramatic silhouette. © 2011 Lesley Ackman. All Rights Reserved.© 2011 Lesley Ackman. All Rights Reserved.

Lauren Golden took two different approaches for her Same Place – Different View. In one shot, “Squirrel” did a broad landscape, while in the other, she photographed a detail of the “puckerbrush.”© 2011 Lauren Golden. All Rights Reserved.© 2011 Lauren Golden. All Rights Reserved.

Michael Ligett had quite a bit of tree damage during the tornados that swept across our state last spring. In one shot, Mike shows some of the devastation; in the other, he homes in on a flower amazingly untouched by the storms.© 2011 Michael Ligett. All Rights Reserved.© 2011 Michael Ligett. Once again, take note of these examples of being in the same place but approaching the subject differently or recording another scene from that same location.

We always love to get comments.

  1. Very nice! Thank you Arnold for the Yosemite photos. Love the different take. Looking forward to my first trip to Yosemite next fall. Thank you Margo for posting the Same Place Challenges. Love seeing the different points of view. Looking forward to seeing some blog material from out west.

    1. John,

      John,

We’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to post things from the west. We’ll probably do some from our scouting in Santa Fé.

Meanwhile, we always seem to get good response from our Same Place — Different View blogs. I think it’s a reminder to all of us to not settle for the first thing we see.

      Take care,

      TBC

    1. Yes, they really did a great job. We keep challenging our participants to see things in different ways and to make the photographs theirs, rather than what we call “just another pretty postcard.”

Thanks for writing, and take care,

      TBC

    1. Glad you like them. We are very proud of the work our participants do!

Take care, and thanks for commenting,

      TBC
