Sandwiched between the watchful eye of the "gentle" volcano Mt. Etna and cliffs on the Ionian Sea, Taormina is, indeed, the jewel of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Mt. Etna, with its hard-scrabble soil, produces some amazing wines.
