Lighthouses of the Outer Banks Photo Workshop with Print Element
     October 30 - November 2, 2008
     Thursday noon through Sunday afternoon at 2:00

Join our digital photography workshop on the coast of North Carolina to strengthen your eye, learn about the magic of light, and hone your printing skills. The Outer Banks are a long, thin strip of barrier islands that protect the North Carolina Coast. Preserved to a large extent by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, it is a visual feast of historic lighthouses spaced between long stretches of wild beaches and pristine sand dunes. The Outer Banks are part of our own back yard that we know so well, and we will go to great locations where you can make wonderful photographs.

We'll be based in Nags Head, near all our locations, making it easier to get up for those early-morning shoots! Every day, the land- and sea-scapes take on a different look, depending upon the weather and time of day. Each lighthouse, with its unique shape and pattern, has its own flash sequence, so even at night, you'll know which one you are seeing and photographing. Surrounding the lighthouses are the salt marshes with their many varieties of reeds and grasses, small skiffs dotting the estuaries, changing reflections, wildlife, and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Even in inclement weather, they are dramatic against a stormy sky. The National Seashore has many other interesting subjects — the patterns of the sand dunes, sea oats and beach peas, and surf pounding the deserted beaches.

At each of our photo adventures, we start out with some technical information before heading out for our first afternoon of photography. Our workshops include the following:
  • Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors
  • Opening wine-and-pizza reception;
  • Primer booklet to help you get started;
  • Early-morning and late-afternoon shoots;
  • Mid-day processing and tweaking your images with Photoshop and Lightroom;
  • Epson printing element with a booklet of step-by-step instructions;
  • Lots of individual instruction in both the field and classroom;
  • Critiques, both individual and group;
  • Discussions on various aspects of photography, including digital workflow;
  • Final group critique and show; and
  • Lots of fun and frivolity throughout!
In our print element, our instructors will show you the ins and outs of successfully and easily turning your favorite digital images into stunning prints using a high-quality Epson printer. In fact, in all our domestic workshops, you will end up making a lovely, large, archival print of one of your workshop photographs made with Epson paper and inks to take home with you.

Remember, our tag line reads, "Create great photos; make great prints!"

If you have not already done so, check our FAQs for questions you may have as well as equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including, if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of the Adobe products.

Cost:  $750 (discounts available)
To sign up, fill out the Application Form, and for the answers to most questions you might have, including what to expect and what to bring, go to our FAQs page.
