Lightroom is an amazingly powerful program that is constantly being updated. Most people don't use even a fraction of its capabilities.

And the new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC is faster and more responsive than its predecessor, Lightroom CC.

Not only is Lightroom an incredibly intuitive imaging program once you get a jump start, it is also a robust DAM (Digital Asset Management) tool.

From organizational techniques that will allow you to quickly and efficiently create a sensible, organized folder structure that works for you, to being able to rename and move folders and files later (always from within Lightroom), to finding your favorite photographs, to using collections and keyword lists, to the various aspects of post-processing, we will bring you up to speed in Lightroom Classic CC.

We start by helping you streamline your workflow so that you can spend more time photographing and less time at the computer, and we end with hands-on experience processing your own images. After all, we are all individuals with different aesthetics.

Topics covered will include but are not limited to:
  • Suggested Catalog Settings and Program Preferences;
  • The various revised and modules and panels and what they do;
  • The powerful organizational capabilities of Lightroom;
  • Suggested, efficient workflow;
  • Assorted tools and presets, including ©, file renaming, Margo's Tweaks, export and import presents, etc.;
  • Templates; and
  • Working with plug-ins such as those by nik (Silver Efex Pro for black-and-white conversions, etc.), AutoPanoPro (for making panoramas), and Photoshop for stitching panoramas and Content Aware Fill, among others.
You will receive a packet with both worksheets and a CD on Lightroom Classic CC that will help you move forward with this program and remind you of all the things you learned in this workshop. Those who sign up will also get a homework list of images to make and bring to the workshop, so they can work on their own images.

Practical Items
Our Lightroom Classic CC workshops are split into three intensive (but fun) three-hour sessions over a two-day period to alow you to absorb all the information presented.

The first session will cover the basics of Lightroom and its two principle modules, Library and Develop, suggested preferences, organization, presets, importing your images through Lighroom, converting RAW files to the dng format to take advantage of quick loading in Lightroom, copyright template, moving and renaming files and folders, collections, and other digital asset management tools available in Lightroom.

In the second session, we will cover a suggested workflow with some dos and don'ts to keep you out of trouble, powerful tools available in the Develop module, including the multi-task capabilities of the adjustment brush, graduated filter, and radial filter tools. You will also learn about the Spot Removal tool (clone/heal), crop/angle, sharpen, lens correction, tone curve, straightening, and hue/saturation/luminance tools, among a host of others, both global and local. You will be working on your own images and your own style of photographing.

The third and final session will address the more sophisticated tools in Lightroom such as the Radial Filter, Dehazing, painting with color, erasing in different tools, and we will do demos on a virtual copy (yes, we'll tell you about that, too) of one image from each participant.

Made during
Summertime on the Maine Coast.

In all cases, for practice, you will work on your own images, as each person has his and her style of photographing.

You will need to bring your laptop with the latest release of Lightroom already installed on it, and you should make sure your computer can handle it. These programs are memory and power hogs. You will also need to bring your "homework" (images taken specifically for this workshop) on your memory card, but do NOT download them onto your computer. Those who sign up will get a detailed list of things to bring.

Is is extremely important that you carefully check the requirements for both Macs and PCs to make sure you can effectively run this powerful program on your computer. For that, see https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/system-requirements.html. We cannot stress enough how important it is to check this page out.

Location(s)
We will be running the workshop at the Hampton Inn in Chareston/West Ashley.

We have negotiated a very good discounted rate (2018 rates will be posted soon on the Charleston "Click here for more information" page) at the smoke-free:

Practical Details:
We start out with some technical information before heading out for our first afternoon of photography. Our workshops include the following:
  • Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors;
  • Primer booklet to help you get started;
  • Early-morning and late-afternoon shoots for domestic workshops;
  • Daily downloading of your images and processing (we use the latest version of Lightroom);
  • Lots of individual instruction in both the field and classroom;
  • Daily critiques, both individual and group for domestic workshops and most overseas ones;
  • Discussions on various aspects of photography, including digital workflow; and
  • Lots of fun and frivolity throughout!
One critical note:  if you are contemplating buying a new camera, please make sure you have a basic working knowledge of it BEFORE you come to one of our workshops. There are so many variations amongst camera brands, and even within each brand, far too many for us to know and thus be able to help you.

FAQs:
If you have not already done so, be sure to check our FAQs for questions you may have as well as for equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including, if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of Adobe and other imaging products.

Rooms can go quickly, so best to not wait too long before signing up. Our special room rates are for participants only. Once we receive your application and monies due at the time of sign-up, we will let our hotel know you are, indeed, with us.
