Trip Insurance:

We highly recommend trip insurance that includes travel health insurance, especially for overseas trips. Travelex Insurance Services is a BBB Accredited business with an A+ rating, where most of the good companies rate a mere A or A-.  Squaremouth.com, a leading comparison site, rates Travelex very high amongst those it lists.  There are six plans.  For a lot more information and the name of our contact person, click here.  Meanwhile, suffice it to say that our travel agent has used Travelex for years.

Accommodations: (link will open in a separate browser window)
We will be headquartered at the lovely, historic Bradley Inn, perfect for sharing with your spouse or significant other, as it has beautiful rooms, a spa, and a fabulous wine list.

We have negotiated an attractive, 10% discounted room rate with
           The Bradley Inn
           3063 Bristol Road
           New Harbor, ME  04554

To take advantage of this 10% discount, call 1-207-677-2105 and tell them you are with Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. As always, we recommend making reservations early (we've already made ours), as the inn is popular and has been reviewed in many high-end magazines.

The discounted rates are on a first-come/first serve basis. For those who miss out on our selection, check out other possibilities in the Damariscotta and Rockland area, including Hotel Pemaquid just down the road (I found some of my photographs in a book they had on display) and Gosnold Arms Inn less than ten minutes away. For a modest charge of approximately $8 plus tax, the Bradley Inn will provide a simple, continental breakfast to any in our group who stay at Hotel Pemaquid.

This lovely old inn is conveniently located close to most of our locations, including our favorite fish shack. Take advantage of the discounted rates and the long weekend to putter around after the workshop ends and return to your favorite workshop locations or explore others.

Airport:
The nearest major Airport is Portland International Jetport in Portland, ME (PWM), a bit over an hour and a half from New Harbor. Other options include Manchester, NH (MHT), a bit over three hours away, and Boston, MA (BOS), a little less than three and a half hours away.

Flying with Photo Equipment:
It is always good to check with TSA and your airline before traveling by air.  Currently, TSA regulations note:

"You may carry one (1) bag of photographic equipment in addition to one (1) carry-on and one (1) personal item through the screening checkpoint.  The additional bag must conform to your air carrier's carry-on restrictions for size and weight.  Please confirm your air carrier's restrictions prior to arriving at the airport."

They do remind everyone that not all airlines will allow this, so you may want to select your airline based on thier willingness to work with photographers...

"Air carriers may or may not allow the additional carry-on item on their aircraft. Please check with your air carrier prior to arriving at the airport."

If you are a member of a photo association, carry your membership card. It may help you, but that is not a guarantee.

Always check back with the TSA website for the latest updates!

Rental Cars:
Because we stop in locations where the roads and streets may be narrow and parking minimal, we encourage car sharing. If you are interested in sharing a rental car with others, let us know. We'll pool those who respond and get you in touch with one another to make your own plans. We can't guarantee that there will be takers, so we also recommend that you rent a car, as you can always cancel later. That way, you won't find your car of choice no longer available.
