We will be staying in the heart of the French Quarter at the historic, smoke-free, and green

     French Quarter-Chateau LeMoyne
     (Holiday Inn, New Orleans)
     301 Rue Dauphin
     New Orleans, LA  70112
     800-747-3279

We have negotiating our rates for 2018 that include our imaging room.

To take advantage of the discounted rates, when updated, please use our special code Barefoot Contessa Photo when you call 800-747-3279 until 12/07/2017. On that date, all rooms remaining in our block will be returned to general inventory. Any reservations accepted on or after the cut off date will be accepted on a space and rate available basis only, but call, as there may still be rooms. These discounted rates are not available through the Internet. And it is always best to book early and have to cancel than to book late and find there are no rooms left. Below are our 2018 rates:

IMPORTANT:
In cases such as this workshop location, the room rate actually includes our daily imaging room. Normally, that room incurs a hefty fee. So unless you are local, please join the rest of your fellow participants. Otherwise, expect to pay a surcharge of up to $75. This obviously will cost a lot more than a few dollars saved with Expedia or other booking sites. Besides, it is more fun and more practical for carpooling if we all stay in the same location.

Many people join us for dinner after the workshop, so you may want to consider staying over that last Thursday night.

Airport: The nearest major Airport is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), a half hour and a $20 shuttle ride away. And, there is no need to rent a car for this workshop!

Travel Agent:
Navigating the maze of overseas flights can be daunting, totally frustrating, and time-consuming as we all search for the best fare. We have two travel agents that we can highly recommend —Sharon Erickson at www.Cheryl-CruisePlanners.com in West End, NC. She is an American Express Travel Representative, is well traveled, and is very savvy in so much more than just cruises. She has access to resources unavailable to us mere mortals and can often find fares that are below the ones on the Internet.

With domestic fares, she does need to charge a fee, usually around $35, but for many, it is well worth it. Call Sharon at at 877-693-4535 (East Coast) or e-mail her as noted above.

Please note that in cases where we negotiate special rates with our hotels, you must either book through our travel agent, or use our links and make your reservations yourself. This information is noted for each workshop under Accommodations above.

Flying with Photo Equipment
It is always good to check with your airline before traveling to make sure you are complying with their current rules. Alas, TSA no longer has guidelines and passes consumers along to their airline of choice. Be prepared to do some deep digging.

We NEVER check our camera gear; nor do we ever check our laptops. The airlines will not cover these, and even if they did, you would be up a creek without those items. Common sense dictates that you allow plenty of extra time should TSA ask you to empty your bag and sift through each item one by one.

You may also want to select your airline based on its willingness to work with photographers...

Remember, you may have to check your bag plane-side before boarding smaller aircraft. We have done this numerous times over the decades without any problems ... knock on wood!

If you are a member of a photo association, carry your membership card. It may help you, but that is not a guarantee.

Finally, too many people bring too much gear. The less you worry about your gear, the more you will see what is around you.

New Orleans is a place where one can and should walk and walk and walk. And with public transportion, you will find that you will not need or want a car.

If you are driving in, we can recommend a secure parking garage just down the street from our hotel that is much more affordable.

For those who are arriving solo, the New Orleans Airport Shuttle at 504-522-3500 (we recommend calling ahead) provides the cheapest transportion to and from the airport for roughly $20 (sans tips).

If you can coordinate so that there are two or more arriving loosely at the same time, taxis are the better bet. A standard $33 fare (sans tip, is split amongst those in the cab. NORTA (New Orleans Regional Transit Authority) has a full web of buses and streetcars (traditional and great fun) with 1- and 3-day passes. There are also Senior discounts, so plan on bringing small change. Normal fare is $1.25, $0.40 for seniors.
