Join our photography workshop in stunning Venice during what is often misty, foggy, moody fall. Not only that, but November is a time when most of the tourists are gone, and we can roam the city in peace without selfie sticks that are so annoying during tourist season.

Venice — Venezia in Italiano — is one of the classic, European cities. Located on some 118 islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, Venice lies between the mouths of the Po and Piave Rivers. Dating back to at least the 10th century, this city has many nicknames — "Queen of the Adriatic," "City of Water," "City of Masks," "City of Bridges," "The Floating City," and "City of Canals" to name just a few.

We love this city with its rabbit-warren of narrow, cobbled streets, little alleys that sneak down to canals, the hustle-bustle of the fish market, the famed Piazza San Marcos, the gleam of the gondolas, etc.

The architecture is stunning, and the light is gorgeous as it bounces from side to side along narrow canals and streets.

We are delighted to announce that we wiill have a guest instructor, Mattia Zaldini, winner of several Leica awards. Mattia is one of our alumni and is now setting up government-sponsored programs for wannabe photographers who have been out in the working world for several years. He is a delight, and those who have not yet met him will enjoy his wry sense of humor and charming European manner.

And like so many worldly Europeans, he has a great appreciation for fine food and wine and knows all sorts of great places to eat!

There are so many other things to explore, and since Mattia works several days a month in Venezia, he well knows the ins and outs of this marvelous locale.

You might stumble into an old bookshop, or discover where many of the gondolas are refurbished. Walking along a narrow street, you may see a Signora leaning our her fourth-story window and lowering a basket for the postman.

Meanwhile, we will also be exploring great restaurants, back streets, little cafés where there are more opportunities for photographing the local scene.

We start out with some technical information before heading out for our first session of photography. Our workshops include the following:
  • Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors;
  • Primer booklet to help you get started;
  • Early-morning and late-afternoon shoots for domestic workshops;
  • Daily downloading of your images and processing (we use the latest version of Lightroom);

One critical note:  if you are contemplating buying a new camera, please make sure you have a basic working knowledge of it BEFORE you come to one of our workshops. There are so many variations amongst camera brands, and even within each brand, far too many for us to know and thus be able to help you.

FAQs:
If you have not already done so, be sure to check our FAQs for questions you may have as well as for equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including, if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of Adobe and other imaging products.

Rooms can go quickly, so best to not wait too long before signing up. Our special room rates are for participants only. Once we receive your application and monies due at the time of sign-up, we will let our hotel know you are, indeed, with us.
