New Orleans 2015, 001

These next blogs may be a bit more frequent, but they will be short. We just did a 12-hour-more-or-less drive from NC to NOLA, often in rain, but not as bad as the weather had forecast.

We arrived safely, had a glass of wine in our room, then walked a few doors away to one of our favorite restaurants and had a yummy meal … local Puppy Drum prepared to perfection, enjoyed with a lovely bottle of Temprenillo, followed by a shared chocolate decadence and some lovely port. Who could ask for more?

After the meal, we decided to do a tour around the block. Well, that turned into several blocks, in fact many blocks. NOLA was in full party mode. People were having fun. Music was playing in various bars.

There is an energy to this city that is contagious. Twelve-hour drive? Piece of cake. Now it’s time to revisit some of our favorite locales.

Along the way, I also saw this window that, to me, does not say it all but does represent a big part of what New Orleans is during party time …© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. As we walked down one street, some musicians were exiting a restaurant with a party of revelers. As it turned out, it was a wedding party, and we followed, photographing and dancing to the catchy beat of the brass band.

I met the proud mother of the bride, and she asked us to join them and party. She gave me one of those traditional satin white kerchiefs that everyone waves in musical processions. What fun, but maybe 12 hours really was 12 hours!

We headed back to our hotel on a quieter street. This scene caught my eye.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. A great way to end the day and our first night back in this great city where we have come so often over the years.
