As in Spain, France has its own National Picasso Museum. Recently rennovated, it is gorgeous with clean, modern lines mingling with more ornate architectural detail. Also, it is well organized, leading the viewer from room to room.

Four of us go, and we manage to dodge most of the tour groups. When they are in one room, we back-track to another or scoot on ahead. It is very manageable.

I think all of us are amazed at the breadth and depth of Picasso’s work. For example, I have never been aware of his wood carvings or his interest in African and Native American art.

Like so many brilliant artists, he was drawing, painting, and sculpting far beyond his years.

A lot of his works are untitled, as with this piece that is labeled simply “Figure, Acier Peint, 1985” or steel and paint.© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. Picasso, to my eye, had a delicious sense of whimsy in many of his works. In these two renditions of “La Guenon et son petit” (The Monkey and her Baby), the left piece is the original in plaster, ceramics, two little cars, and metal, the right in bronze. Yes, two little cars!© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. There is a grand staircase in the museum. Very clean, very elegant. Arnie and I, along with the Picasso head at the bottom, are startled to see Continue reading

More walking. We love walking in Paris and other cities. For us, it is the way to savor an area, although it does often take longer to get from one destination to another. For us, however, it is more about the journey than the target. Day 13 saw close to 5 miles of walking, Day 14 a mere 4-1/4.

But people are out and enjoying Paris as they usually do. While some of the lower walks are still flooded. people line up on steps, soaking in long-absent sun.© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. We pass by a building, and at first glance, two people are up a story looking down on the passers-by. Woops, someone has a sense of humor; they are just manequins.© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. Dogs rule in Paris. This is not usually a good thing, as there are lots of hazards to avoid. We were in shock the other day when an owner actually cleaned up after his dog! We have been doing a ton of walking. Both Fitbit and the iPhone indicated close to 8-1/2 miles. Rather than a lot of verbiage, I’ll try to tell the story of the last two days in mostly captions:

Arnie’s and my days start out here at a corner cafe just down the street from our flat. There is a goldfish pond with two Lilies floating about.© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. Arnie has always appreciated art, especially when line and form come into play. There were some funny comments on this one on Facebook!© 2016 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved.
