Charleston has many faces. Not only is she a southern belle, complete with handsome architecture, famous charm, beautiful tree-shaded streets and squares, wonderful wrought iron, old cemeteries, and an interesting waterfront, but nearby, there are historic plantations, the ocean, and estuaries dotting the landscape. And do not forget the magnificent swamps with their graceful cypress trees, knees rising out of the water, and reflections amongst spring flowers.

Many of us look forward to returning to this area with all its photographic opportunities. You'll be treated to beautiful gardens, the omnipresent Spanish moss hanging off Live Oak trees, and the elegant, oft-faded, grandeur of the cobbled, sometimes-paved, streets.

You may even see an alligator basking in the sun on the banks of an old rice pond, often topped by a few turtles, but don't get too close! They can launch out of the water as far as the length of their bodies. After that, their powerful tails are out of water, and they have lost that thrust. Stay safe!

Charleston is a foodie city with plenty of dining establishments. Many participants stay an extra few days after the workshop, not only to practice their new-found or recently-honed photographic skills and eye, but to return to areas that intrigued them or to explore new ones.

For anyone loving a slice of history and the grace of the old South, you can't go wrong. You'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, seek your own vision, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make stunning images in the company of like-minded photographers.

When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving for the first session on Sunday. Newcomers should be ready to go at noon, while seasoned alumni can wait until 1:00. The latter may be adjusted depending upon the group, but that will be announced in the final-info e-mail.

For those who stay over the night that the workshop ends, we usually go out shooting and dine one last evening together.
