Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures (BCPA) will be returning to the wonderful and varied Monhegan Island. Monhegan, from Monchiggon, Algonquian for "out-to-sea island" Island, about ten miles off the rocky Maine coast, has been a haunt and artist's paradise since the late 1850s. No wonder. Barely one square mile in mass, it is laced with some 12 miles of trails that lead you through fragrant forests, along cliff edges, by artists' cottages and charming fish houses, even a weathered lighthouse. Above the raging seas on the Atlantic side, one can sometimes find photographic treasures cast off by some bygone storm.

There are distinct aspects to this island, so you will not get bored, the charming village, woodland trails (do bring bug repellant), flowers, craggy coastlines, fishing boats off shore, and plenty of artists, many famous in the art world. And don't forget the famous Maine fir trees, "Land of the Pointed Firs," that add wonderful elements to the coastline.

The workshop will be headquartered at an inn right near the ferry, and the staff will bring your luggage up to the hotel for you.

As mentioned in other Maine workshops, and as many of our alumni know, the Barefoot Contessa grew up sailing this area, so knows it well. She looks forward to introducing you to special places where you'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs.

And you will be doing it right in an area that has produced many of Margo's photographs that have been published in calendars, travel magazines, and coffee-table books. After the workshop, plan on taking an extra few days to explore this area on your own, return to places you have visited on the workshop, and use your new-found knowledge to make more beautiful images. Or come early, if you are also coming to Summertime on the Maine Coast afterwards.

Remember that Mother Nature has a mind of her own, so come prepared. There may be some terrific opportunities. And for those who have not read it, check out "Blue Skies, Who Needs'em" on the BCPA blog.

When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving on time.

Meanwhile, be sure to carefully read BCPA's FAQs, as well as the various links in the box above. They should hopefully answer almost any question you might have.

Fees:  Standard $2,180 | Alumni $1,856 | Association $1,964 | Twofer Discount in combination with Maine Coast | Early-bird Special @ Association rate — both discounts only by check (see parameters)

Travel insurance is highly recommended to ensure protection against any unforeseeable events. BCPA is a small company and cannot be held liable for those who choose not to buy trip insurance.  Sharon Erickson, my trusty travel agent, can help you with that. And, no, BCPA does not get any credit for referring you to her, only a thank you!
