Oasis
Hillsborough residents and internationally acclaimed photographers Arnold “Arnie” Zann and Margo Taussig Pinkerton are pleased to announce their photo exhibit to be held in Durham, North Carolina. While Arnie and Margo have spent decades capturing images from around the world, New Orleans, and in particular the French Quarter and nearby areas, has remained a regular draw, its history, architecture, diverse population and eccentric patina ever-present temptations for this married couple.

Margo is drawn to line and form—a mannequin in a window, or the textures of buildings. Arnie uncovers the visceral energy of a city that has long shed its inhibitions. Together, they bring the Quarter, with its changing cast of characters, unexpected scenes and varying light into a focus that not only illuminates, but interprets.

New Orleans: Through the Eyes of Arnold Zann and Margo Taussig Pinkerton opens with a reception on Friday, January 18, at 6 pm at Through This Lens in downtown Durham. The exhibit continues through February 12, 2019.

Apothocary Shop, Old Style
Margo Taussig Pinkerton came by her creative sensibility naturally, having been raised in an artistic family that exposed her to the great museums, painters, and photographers of the world. With her affinity for composition and light, Margo began a long career in the world of photography, from travel and advertising and outdoor clients to workshops, lectures and fine art. Her award-winning images have appeared in countless exhibitions and are in private and university collections such as the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library in Cambridge, MA and Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library in New Haven, CT.

Arnie and Margo have been photographing New Orleans for nearly four decades; New Orleans: Through the Eyes features work from the last four years. In these photographs the city is not merely shown but told: light and shadow, noise and hush, raw feeling and coy innuendo. New Orleans’ visual richness meets its match in this couple’s powers of observation, and in turn they are drawn to its beauty and tawdriness like moths to a Mardi Gras torch.
