We are returning to the Outer Banks in the springtime. Each season has its own personality, so join our photography workshop on our own wild and pristine North Carolina barrier islands. We will show you special gems along this untamed coastline we love so well.
The sunrises and sunsets can be spectacular, the patterns along the seashore and in the marshes inspirational, and the sights and sounds of the wild Atlantic pounding the coast intoxicating. We'll even visit a beautiful garden where the spring blossoms can be stunning.
You'll love photographing here, and you'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs.
For this workshop, we will be based in Nags Head, near the site of the first flight by the Wright Brothers. It is an area rich in history, so there is no lack of subject matter. From there, we will head up and down the coast, both ocean- and sound-side for different effects on this amazing area.
Springtime here is quite different from the fall. The Outer Banks are almost deserted; the winter winds have tossed the dunes around into new formations; and the coast looks particularly wild and dramatic. We'll pretty much have the place to ourselves! That said, the piers will be open, and we can enjoy one of our favorite pasttimes getitng Shrimp and Beer on the Pier when the shrimp — spicey or "nekked" — are half price! We love to sit there and get up to photograph this or that interesting character.
The National Seashore has many other interesting subjects — the patterns of the sand dunes, sea oats and beach peas, and surf pounding the deserted beaches.
And one never knows what the weather and night skies will bring. Mother Nature, after all, has a mind of her own. We may get some terrific opportunities. And for those who have not read it, check out "Blue Skies, Who Needs'em" on the BCPA blog.
When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving for our first session on Monday. Our newcomers should be ready to go at 1:00 pm, while our seasoned alumni can wait until 2:00 when we will be going over our pandemic guidelines, and even our guests should join us.
We tend to stay over the night that the workshop ends, and for those who want to join us, we usually go out shooting and dine one last evening together.
Meanwhile, be sure to carefully read our FAQs, as well as the various links in the box below. They should hopefully answer almost any question you might have.
