Today, we went on the Sky Walk in Monteverde (literally green mountain). I can’t describe how amazing it is to walk over some of the tree tops while other trees still tower far above you.

At times, one could reach out and touch the vegetation (we didn’t), and at others, one just marvels at the incredible variations on the color green.

Some of the bridges are quite short, whilst the longest is in three sections. I can’t conceive of the engineering it took to get those bridge cables across the incredibly steep ravines. Truly amazing!

There aren’t just greens, of course. Some of the leaves are red, some silver underneath, and the variety of flowers boggles the mind. Costa Rica has one of the highest biodiversities anywhere in the world.

We loved how the light played off the plants …

We also went on the Sky Tram and loved another vantage point. I climbed up the tower at the top and got a fabulous view of Golfo de Nicoya over the tree tops with the layers of velvet-flanked hills between us and the coast.

It was late in the afternoon, but we really wanted to see the Monteverde Cloud Forest. One of the other things about this country is that the various jungles and rain forest all have different personalities. At different elevations, the growth is not the same. So that we could be out of the park before it closed, we did the shortest walk. It was to one of the cascades, and it was a lovely one. Well worth our short excursion into the park.

Before we totally left the area, I took a quick look at a hummingbird display just down the road a short way. There are feeders out, and the variety of hummingbirds is astounding. With patience, one can isolate the birds from the feeders! As one stands ion awe of these little creatures, one is surrounded by the whirring of their wings. Mostly, they played nicely with one another and took turns. Occasionally, there was a turf war. It was a delight to watch.

Back at our hotel, we were treated to this stunning sky. What a way to end the day before we headed off to dinnner. Neither Arnie, nor Giuseppe, nor I could remember the last time we had seen such a sky!© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Tomorrow we head back to San José to do some final plans before we meet up with our participants on Saturday! We look forward to welcoming back old friends and greeting new ones.
