Day 05- The Last Morning

The last morning is always a little sad.  Friendships are made, and everyone knows that we will go from living, eating, breathing, and laughing together to a return to our normal lives.  We have shared our passion for photography, and at home, many do not have that intensive experience day by day.

For our final shoot, we like to go someplace nearer to our hotel, as there is always a lot of imaging to do the last day and time is always short.  Catch-ups in addition to the daily post-processing.

Some like to do morning skies, and some prefer to concentrate on the fantastical shapes of the rock formations as dawn slips into morning.  As always, I like to do something different than I have done all the previous times we have been here.

This one took some planning on exactly where I would place myself.  I knew what I wanted, and nature cooperated.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. I reminded our participants of the cryptobionic soil, also known as biological soil, that fragile soil of the desert that takes years and years to create and only a footstep to destroy. This soil is rich in nutrients that allow plants to grow in this beautiful-but-hostile environment. Arnie commented later that it looked like a circus as people joked and displayed antics as they took care to not step on this soil.

Meanwhile, the light was still good, and I was encouraging our people to really look at light. I found a clump of grasses that glowed in the morning sun.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. We enjoyed our final breakfast at Jailhouse Cafe, and reluctantly ended our meal to head back to the imaging room. The images they shared were wonderful, and Arnie and I loved the growth we saw in all of them.

Good-byes were difficult, and people were not eager to leave. We lingered, but finally, the last person was gone, and Arnie and I packed up.

Next stop, Pagosa Springs where we spent the night before heading on to Taos.
